Sony PSVR 2 or Oculus Quest 2: Which has better specs?
PlayStation VR2 headset

Sony has finally shown us what the PlayStation VR 2 has in store for its contender for the best VR headset, and it looks absolutely fantastic, with plenty of PSVR 2 games lined up to play. But there are other great headsets out there, and today we're comparing the PSVR 2 to the popular Oculus Quest 2 to see which one has the better specs.

Both headsets will transport you to different worlds, powered by either the PS5 or a PC for PSVR 2 and either the PS5 or a PC for Quest 2. There are numerous games to play, with many more on the way in 2022, and each can be used for other purposes on the side.

VR has been bubbling for many years at this point, and we're only now seeing some industry maturity and buy-in from developers, who are critical to making the platforms enjoyable.

So, to find the best VR headset, let's compare the PSVR 2 and Quest 2.

SONY PSVR 2 SPECS

Sony unveiled the PSVR 2 a few days ago, and we're very excited.

Sony has delivered a 4K OLED screen, 2000x2040 pixels-per-eye, HDR support, 90Hz/120Hz refresh rate, 110-degree field of view, eye-tracking, and four inside-out cameras, which is one of the most important aspects of any VR headset (to monitor surroundings).

Sony will include two updated Sense controllers that provide even more precision and aid in-game immersion.

The price of the PSVR 2 is unknown, but you will need to purchase a PS5 (along with games) because the PSVR 2 only works via a wired connection, unlike Quest 2.

OCULUS QUEST 2 SPECS

Because the Oculus Quest 2 was released recently, its specifications are generally inferior to Sony's PSVR 2, which has yet to be released or even given a release date.

However, the Quest 2 packs a powerful punch, especially if you want to use the headset wirelessly (ie, away from a PC). This is a fantastic feature that makes VR feel much more real than being limited to a legacy device.

Oculus Quest 2 features 18321920 pixels-per-eye through an LCD display with no HDR, refresh rates of 72Hz/90Hz/120Hz, a 90-degree field of view, four inside-out cameras, no eye tracking, hand tracking, a mic, and bundle Oculus Touch controllers.

The specifications are not shabby and will deliver crisp, immersive games. In addition, Oculus Quest 2 is currently available for purchase.

WHICH HAS BETTER SPECS?

In terms of raw specifications, the PSVR 2 is superior in almost every objective way: higher resolution, wider field of view, OLED, and so on. However, because the PSVR 2 is not currently available for purchase, the Oculus Quest 2 (or the outgoing PSVR) is the obvious choice for anyone looking to get into VR gaming right away or who does not own a PS5 console.

The variety of games available varies as well, and it will be interesting to see what kind of exclusives Sony manages to line up in the future for PSVR 2 buyers.
