Apple made a surprise announcement in November 2021, announcing that it will offer a self-service program for users to repair iPhones and Macs. Apple's Self Service Repair is now available in the United States, allowing interested nerds and geeks to buy genuine products from the official site and then repair the device according to the manual guidelines.

The program is now available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 service devices, as well as the iPhone SE (3rd generation). Buyers who are interested in purchasing the parts and accessing the manual can do so directly from the Apple Self Service Repair Store. Over 200 parts and tools are available from online stores to repair various devices.

This program will assist those who are familiar with the complexities of repairing electronic devices in completing repairs on the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 lineups, and iPhone SE (3rd generation). Spare parts such as the display, battery, and camera will be available in stores. Later this year, the program will include manuals, parts, and tools for repairing Mac computers equipped with Apple chipsets.

A user will review the repair manual for the product they want to repair before ordering a part by going to support.apple.com/self-service-repair. They can then go to the Apple Self Service Repair Store and order the required parts and tools. All spare parts available in the store are priced the same as those available at Apple's authorised repair providers. Customers who return a replaced part for recycling will receive a credit for certain repairs.

In addition, Apple will sell tool rental kits for $49, allowing customers to use them for a week and then return them. The kit will be delivered free of charge. Apple's self-service repair is currently available in the United States and will be expanded to other countries, beginning in Europe later this year.
