BSNL 4G Roundup: India Launch, and 4G Speed Test, Trials, Spectrum, and More
While private telecom companies compete for 5G spectrum, the government-owned BSNL is still preparing to launch 4G. Everything we know about it is listed below.
While private telecom companies like Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and others are preparing to distribute 5G services in the midst of the 5G auction, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) will now launch 4G services across India. The Indian government will invest Rs 1.6 lakh crore to help the telco compete with private telecom players in the country.
Having said that, BSNL has also announced that its 4G services will be available across PAN India very soon. The company does not lack 4G services, but they are currently only available in major cities. So, if you're looking for information on when BSNL will launch its 4G network, you've come to the right place. This article will go over the rollout plan, expected internet speeds, and other aspects of BSNL's 4G network in the country. Everything you need to know about BSNL's 4G rollout plan is right here.
BSNL 4G Expected Launch in India
There is no set date for BSNL to launch its 4G services across India. However, according to a previous report, the telco intends to roll out 4G services across the country by 2024. 4G services are expected to be available within the next two years. Surprisingly, the 5G rollout in India is expected to begin before Diwali.
According to the report, BSNL is collaborating with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to ensure a consistent rollout of 4G services across India. TCS and BSNL are working together to complete the stable rollout within the next 18-24 months.
BSNL 4G Internet Speed
BSNL has recently conducted a number of trials across India to evaluate its 4G capabilities. BSNL reportedly achieved speeds of up to 20Mbps during a trial run in India. The speed is comparable to what other telcos have been providing to their customers. It should be noted, however, that this speed was achieved during the 4G trial services, and it may vary during the commercial rollout due to the large number of subscribers who will use it.
BSNL 4G Trials
BSNL has been granted permission to conduct 4G trials in April 2022. Since then, the telco has announced that it will trial 4G services in four districts of Kerala: Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, and Kozhikode, beginning in August 2022. BSNL is testing 4G services in India in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The government was reportedly considering allowing BSNL to order equipment for up to 100,000 sites in addition to the 12,400 initially provided.
TCS says it is about to wrap up discussions with BSNL on a number of deployment and commercial prospects. The company intends to deploy the first batch of equipment before the end of the year. Several rounds of testing have taken place, including integration with their current network and systems.
BSNL 4G Spectrum
BSNL has not yet been assigned any 4G spectrum. However, the Indian government is expected to assign specific 4G spectrum bands to the telco in order for it to provide 4G services to its customers. According to the Department of Technology, BSNL will receive the spectrum "after completion of necessary formalities in accordance with Cabinet approval in this regard." The Government of India has made available Rs 43,964 crores for BSNL to purchase the spectrum. The corporation is currently losing Rs 90,000 crores.
