Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5 Generation 1 and 5+ Generation 1 Announced: Features, and Specifications

Qualcomm has introduced two new wearable chipsets: the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5 Gen 1 and the Wear 5+ Gen 1. The Snapdragon Wear 4100+'s successors are built on a 4nm fabrication process. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon Wear 5+ is capable of delivering extended battery life and great performance, resulting in a richer user experience. Qualcomm also collaborated with Google to optimize Wear OS for its most recent processor.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5+ Gen 1 also includes an AON co-processor manufactured on a 22nm process. Let's look at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5 Gen 1 and Wear 5+ Gen 1 specifications and features in more detail.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5 Generation 1 and 5+ Generation 1 Announced: Features, and Specifications

As previously stated, the Snapdragon Wear 5 Gen 1 and Wear 5+ Gen 1 are manufactured on a 4nm process. The Snapdragon Wear 5+ Gen 1 has four Cortex-A53 cores and one Cortex-M55 core. It has an integrated A702 GPU with a clock speed of 1GHz. This is a significant improvement over the Wear 4100+, which had an A504 GPU clocked at 320MHz.

The most recent Snapdragon Wear platforms include a new M55 dedicated machine learning unit. The Wear 5+ Gen 1 includes an AON coprocessor, which can handle background tasks while consuming less power. This co-chip will support low-power Bluetooth and WiFi, as well as notifications, speech processing, and audio playback.

According to Qualcomm, these new wearable SoCs will provide twice the performance of the previous generation wearable SoC, Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+. At the same time, the Snapdragon Wear 5+ consumes 50% less power than the Wear 4100+.

Qualcomm is collaborating with Pegatron and Compel to develop Snapdragon Wear 5+ Gen 1 powered smartwatches for reference, which should help Qualcomm onboard partners and develop products more quickly. Qualcomm has also announced that Oppo and Movoi will be the first watchmakers to launch Snapdragon Wear 5 series processors, with a total of 25 smartwatches in the works.
