Qualcomm has announced the launch of two new mobile platforms. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC was released alongside the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The 8+ Gen 1 SoC is the more expensive and powerful of the two. It is the follow-up to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that was announced late last year.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC includes a number of high-end, in-demand features and technologies. According to Qualcomm, it enabled "epic mobile gaming, high-speed connectivity, intelligent entertainment, and larger-than-life capture." Let's take a look at the newly released Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, as well as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC features and details.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC Features
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC replaces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It has a few minor improvements over its predecessor. Qualcomm claims that the new flagship chipset improves CPU and GPU performance by 10% while consuming 30% less power. This should give you an extra 60 minutes of smooth gameplay. The octa-core chipset operates at a maximum clock speed of 3.2GHz.
The chipset incorporates the latest Snapdragon Sight technologies, such as 8K HDR video recording, capturing 200MP images, or recording 108MP videos through a single camera at 30 fps with no shutter lag.
The new 7th-generation Qualcomm AI Engine is said to improve AI-related performance by 20% on the 5G flagship processor. The chipset supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G with the help of the X65 5G modem. It also supports WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and other technologies.
Xiaomi, Realme, Asus, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, iQOO, Honor, Asus, and others will release smartphones with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC beginning in Q3 2022.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC
According to Qualcomm, the new 7 series chip includes high-end, in-demand features. The new chipset supports select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, such as the Adreno Frame Motion Engine, which doubles the frame rate while consuming the same amount of power.
The chipset's maximum clock speed is 2.4GHz. The new improved GPU also provides 20% faster graphics rendering. According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 7 series chipset also supports Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP, allowing users to shoot from three cameras at the same time or capture 200MP images.
The chipset supports 5G and is equipped with a 4th-generation X62 modem. Companies such as Oppo, Xiaomi, and Honor have already confirmed the release of new smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.
Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Platform
Along with the new mobile platforms, Qualcomm unveiled its new Snapdragon XR2 platform. The company unveiled its new AR glasses, which incorporate the new XR2 platform. The newer model is completely wireless and 40% thinner. It has two 0.49-inch micro-OLED displays with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
Two 6DoF tracking cameras and one RGB camera are also included in the glass. Despite its extensive hardware, the AR Glass weighs only 115 grams.
The device achieves 3ms latency between the smartphone and AR glass to achieve truly immersive AR experiences. In addition, the new glasses support WiFi 6/ 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
