Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC

Qualcomm's flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, was recently refreshed with the official launch of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC. The new Qualcomm chipset for flagship Android smartphones improves CPU and GPU performance by up to 10% and efficiency by up to 30%. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, like its predecessor, is built on a 4nm process. Smartphones equipped with the new flagship chipset will be available in the coming weeks.

According to a new report, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is already in the works. It is expected to be released at the end of this year. Some key features of the upcoming Snapdragon flagship SoC have also been leaked online. Let's take a look at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC specs, features, and other information that is currently available.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC Features Leaked

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is expected to be announced by Qualcomm in December. Some information has leaked ahead of the official launch. The Snapdragon's Gen 2 flagship SoC will have a unique cluster setup, according to tipster Digital Chat Station. The SoC's model number is SM8550.

The Gen 2 variant, according to Digital Chat Station, will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and will continue to be based on a 4nm fabrication process. While the fab will be the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, the tipster claims that the upcoming SoC will have a different cluster configuration.

The Gen 2 SoC will have a 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 configuration, as opposed to the current lineup's 1+ 3 + 4 configuration. It will consist of one Makalu generation core, two Makalu generation cores, two Matterhorn cores, and three Klein R1 cores.

Best Gaming Phone in The World

The Makalu core could be the upcoming Prime X3 core, whereas the Makalu refers to the Cortex CPUs from 2022. This means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC could include a Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, and three low-power Cortex-A510 cores. The CPU cores could be paired with a GPU such as the Adreno 740.

Smartphones powered by the new Gen 2 flagship SoC are expected to hit the market later this year. We can expect Xiaomi to be among the first to launch its next-generation flagship smartphones with the new Snapdragon high-end chipset, as it is every year.
