Infinity Ward has been hinting at the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II for the past month, and the studio has now confirmed that the game is in development. It was rumoured at the end of last year that Infinity Ward was working on a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare, and it appears that this has now been confirmed.

Infinity Ward was responsible for the creation of some of the most popular Call of Duty games, including the Modern Warfare trilogy. For the most part, the 2019 game received universal acclaim for its fantastic single-player campaign and for changing up the multiplayer formula.

This will be the franchise's major release in 2022, and reports indicate that Activision will skip 2023 and not release a major COD title.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II Confirmed by Infinity Ward

Although initial reports suggested that Activision might be abandoning the COD franchise's annual release schedule, 2023 may not be a completely COD-free year. According to reports, Activision may release smaller games such as Zombies expansions and the like instead of a "premium" Call of Duty release this year.

Activision is also working on a mobile version of Warzone, which promises to be a thrilling experience for the mobile gaming community. The mobile shooter market appears to be heating up, as EA has entered the market with Apex Legends Mobile, and it appears that Riot and Ubisoft are also working on mobile versions of Valorant and Rainbow Six Siege, respectively.

Meanwhile, Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is set to be one of the year's most anticipated games, and given the amount of positive press that 2019's Modern Warfare earned Infinity Ward, this could be a huge hit for the studio.
