Sony Releases Voice Commands Feature to PS5 in a New Beta Update

A new system software beta for the PS4 and PS5 has been released, which features a glimpse of voice commands for the PlayStation 5. The voice command preview will only be available in the United Kingdom and the United States for the time being, but it is anticipated that once the feature comes out of beta, it will be available globally.

Tomorrow's system software beta allows players to try out community-requested features like 'Open Parties,' which is accessible on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Voice commands for discovering and opening apps and games, as well as controlling media playback, will be available to beta participants in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Open and Closed Parties (PS5 and PS4 betas)

You can now choose between an open and a closed party when starting a party:

• An open party allows your guests to view and join the party without needing to be invited. Friends of party members are welcome to join as well.
  
• Only the players you invite are invited to a closed party.

Voice chat reporting feature update (PS5 beta)

If you want to report something said at a party, there are now visual indications to help you figure out who said it.

• Updates to Share Play (PS5 beta)

Directly from the voice chat card, start Share Play. To use Share Play, you no longer need to start Share Screen first.

• The volume of the voice conversation (PS4 beta)

On the PS4, you may now change the voice chat volume of each participant in a party independently, much like on the PS5.

Sort by genre.

• A new genre filter has been added to your game library, allowing you to rapidly identify specific types of game experiences.

Remain at home

• By selecting "Keep in Home" with the (options) button, you may now keep the games or apps you choose on your home screen.
• This feature allows you to maintain a maximum of five games and apps on each home screen.
• Apps on the home screen have grown in number.

On your home screen, you can now have a total of 14 games and apps.

The user interface for Trophies has been updated.

• On the trophy tracker, you can get ideas for which trophies to acquire and access it from the Control Center while you're playing a game.

Voice Commands for the PS5

• For beta participants with accounts registered in the United States and the United Kingdom, this feature is now available in English.
• To get started, go to the Settings menu and select Voice Command (Preview). Then say, "Hey, PlayStation!" and ask your PS5 console to look for a game, open an app or change a setting, or control playback.
