The Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones, the successor to the popular Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones, have been launched. The new model has improved active noise cancellation (ANC), a new and improved design, a longer battery life, a 30mm audio driver setup, and many other features.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are powered by two audio processors and support a variety of audio codecs and profiles. According to Sony, these headphones are also suitable for long calls and long flights because they are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Sony WH-1000XM5: Price and Availability
The Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones cost £379 in the United Kingdom and $399.99 in the United States. Both countries are now accepting pre-orders for the product. These headphones are available in two colours: black and silver. There is no word on when the headphones will be available in India, but we anticipate that they will be available soon.
Sony WH-1000XM5: Features and Specifications
The Sony WH-1000XM5 over-ear headphones feature Bluetooth 5.2 for reliable wireless connectivity. On the inside, these headphones feature a large 30mm dynamic driver unit that supports SBC, AAC, and LDAC audio formats, as well as A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP sound profiles. There is also DSEE Extreme, an AI-based process that restores detail and clarity from lossy compressed formats.
These headphones are now more cylindrical in shape and have a thinner headband. The new earcups can rotate sideways but not inwards like the previous generation. The active noise cancellation is the key feature here, as it has always been on the XM series headphones. Sony has included the new V1 processor, which enables the HD Noise Cancelling processor QN1.
This set of eight microphones is rated to provide excellent noise cancellation. There is also an Auto NC optimizer, which optimises your wearing conditions and environment automatically. Ambient mode is also available, allowing you to be aware of your surroundings while listening to music. In addition, the WH-1000XM5 supports Hi-Res and Hi-Res audio wireless.
These headphones have a stereo jack as well as a detachable single-sided cord that is 1.2 metres long. In terms of battery life, they can last up to 30 hours with ANC turned on and up to 40 hours with ANC turned off for music. These numbers are reduced to 24 and 32 hours for calls. A full charge takes about 3.5 hours, and charging is done through a USB Type-C port.
Other features on select Sony TVs include quick attention mode, two or three taps to access music, Google Assistant, and Alexa voice assistant, Google Fast Pair, multipoint connection, touch controls, collapsible design, 360-degree reality audio, Dolby Atmos, and 360 Spatial Sound. Finally, the headphones weigh 250 grammes, making them easy to transport.
