This Asus VivoBook S15 laptop (S533) review is the place to be if you need one of the best laptops for work, with a large screen and a separate number pad for quick data entry.

Other factors that contribute to productivity include a long-lasting battery and fast speeds. Not to mention that this is one of the best lightweight laptops available; you will have no trouble carrying it around with you.

This was always going to be a winner, because it has everything you need and then some.

When it comes to what you want in a laptop, the Asus VivoBook S15 checks a lot of boxes.

And, of course, Windows 10 is Windows 10 – Microsoft's desktop operating system continues to improve, with improved integration with smartphones (particularly Android devices) and a redesigned, Chromium-based browser in the form of Microsoft Edge.

ASUS VIVOBOOK S15 REVIEW: SCREEN AND DESIGN

The Asus VivoBook S15's 15.6-inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution display is both attractive and easy to use: there are pleasantly thin bezels around the edges, and the display itself is bright, vivid, and sharp. The 16:9 aspect ratio isn't our favorite – that honor goes to the 16:10 ratio – but it's ideal for those widescreen movies and shows.

The laptop makes good use of its premium materials elsewhere, with a spacious keyboard that feels well cushioned and looks well lit – the different color around the Enter key is a nice touch – and a trackpad that is equally responsive and accurate. The trackpad includes a fingerprint sensor, which makes logging into Windows 10 a breeze. The all-metal chassis looks the part and gives the impression that it is built to last.

One advantage of choosing a laptop this size over a 13-inch laptop is that you get more ports: the Asus VivoBook S15 has an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, a USB 3.2 USB-A port, and two USB 2.0 USB-A ports, as well as a headphone jack and a microSD card reader. That covers a lot of ground, and there are a lot of color options as well: Indie Black, Gaia Green, Resolute Red, and Dreamy White (we had the green).

Despite the large 15.6-inch screen, the laptop is only 16.1 mm (0.63 inches) thick and weighs 1.8 kg (3.97 lbs). You'll need some space to store it inside a bag, but it won't weigh you down at all. We like what Asus has done here in terms of design and style, from the materials used to the colorful lids to the backlighting on the keyboards, and it stands out in a crowded market.

ASUS VIVOBOOK S15 REVIEW: PERFORMANCE AND FEATURES

Our Asus VivoBook S15 review model included one of the most recent 11th-generation Intel i7-1165G7 processors, which ensured excellent performance and a decent battery life, as well as 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD hard drive. Other configurations, with less storage, 8GB of RAM, and a less powerful 11th-gen Intel i5-1135G7 processor, are available if you want to save money. Intel Iris X integrated graphics handle the visuals.

As you might expect from reading those specs, the performance of the i7-powered laptop we tested was more than adequate for our day-to-day computing needs. Due to the lack of dedicated graphics, demanding games and large video editing projects are out of the question, but the Asus VivoBook S15 excels in all other areas. It's a quick, capable laptop that's a great advertisement for Intel's new 11th generation chips, which have been distributed to manufacturers.

Load up some widescreen video and you'll notice that it not only looks good, but it also sounds good – the laptop includes a Harman Kardon-certified stereo sound system that will even attempt surround sound for you. It's not quite as good as a home entertainment system, and the bass is a little lacking, but audio remains crisp and clear at a surprisingly high volume, with individual elements of music tracks easily distinguishable. It's another advantage for the laptop.

When it comes to battery life, the Asus VivoBook S15 performs admirably, though it is unlikely to set any records. We were able to get 7-8 hours of use out of a charger, which is adequate for a laptop this size, though we weren't doing anything particularly demanding. In our standard two-hour video streaming test – maximum brightness, low volume – the laptop dropped from 100% to 75%, implying an overall battery life of around 8 hours.

ASUS VIVOBOOK S15 REVIEW: PRICE AND VERDICT

We haven't mentioned the Asus VivoBook S15's price yet, which makes it even more appealing. Check the widgets on this page for the most recent online deals, but at the time of writing, the laptop is available for a very reasonable mid-range price of around £700 in the UK or $700 in the US. Sure, there are significantly less expensive Windows laptops available, but the Asus VivoBook S15 offers so much more for your money.

It all starts with the eye-catching design and aesthetics, as well as the color options. The 15.6-inch display is ideal for everything from word processing to binge watching your favorite series, and despite all that screen space, this portable computer keeps the emphasis on portable: it's not bulky in the least.

The positives continue when you look inside the laptop, which features the most recent 11th-generation Intel processors and plenty of RAM to handle dozens of browser tabs or open images. You also have plenty of internal storage to play with, and it's super-fast: moving large numbers of files is another task that the Asus VivoBook S15 excels at.

All things considered, this is just about our favorite laptop at the moment. There are more powerful laptops, laptops with better screens, and laptops at lower prices, but for a day-to-day 15-inch laptop that will do everything you need it to do and then some, it's very hard to beat at this mid-range price – the perfect balance of price and performance.
